Happy Planters! Dark mode-ers! 🌷 We finally have an update to jam too! Please update and enjoy the fun! Breakdance breakdown….🌼

DARK MODE 👻 – Now you can water your babies in dark mode without getting cross-eyed! We’ve adjusted the colors to be less contrasting. Take a peek and let us know what you think.

Additionally, while we fixed some annoying things to help our green baby mamas ❤️

• Troubleshoot days counters, ensure they work as expected
• Troubleshoot app icon counter, ensure counts as expected
• Now when adding a new plant, the first water alarm will go off for the following scheduled day. There was confusion when the first alarm was generated and so this should help solve this
• Fix: No more black transparent boxes showing up on time-lapse video
• Fix: when deleting a plant, remove notifications

Happy Plant Update 3.8.7

Hi, Happy Planters! First off, hope you are all safe and taking care of yourselves during these weird times.

If quarantine teaches humans one thing, I hope it highlights the importance of plants and the life that they can bring into our homes! Holy crap….I love my green babies and I just gave birth to some tomatoes! lol

Anyhow, beyond the chaos, we fixed some bugs:

• When creating new plants, they are now automatically watered, so you won’t get confused if they still need to tap to water.
• Forgotten “days overdue” now start from the day it should have been watered.

We’ve also spent time updating our code as required by Apple. This will put us in a position to soon release a proper dark mode version.

One Giant Leap For Plant-kind

As plant lovers, plant parents, plant caretakers, we’ve gotten close to our… well, our plants.

The inseparable bond with our green babies is undeniable.

I mean sure, little Johnny needs us to play ball, our cute Spot needs us to throw biscuits, but there’s a special bond that we have with our plants that you simply can’t explain to someone who doesn’t have plants.

Plants are extensions of who we are.

And watering plants is how we bring life into this world.

But just like our kids and pets, plants experience one difficult hurdle to overcome.

It’s hard to communicate!

Until now.

Redefining What Being A Plant Is

We are so thrilled that Google has taken a stance on plant communication and understanding and is finally bringing Google Tulip to the public!

For years, I have sung bedtime songs to my plants and asked how are they doing? And I can only imagine what they are saying.

But now that they have to decode the language of a flower with their AI technology, Google Tulip can now let us know what plants are actually saying.

Now we’ll know when are plants are thirsty and need water.

Now we’ll know when are plants have soiled themselves and need new soil.

Now we’ll know what type of music our plants want to hear.

Before I cry and have to water myself again, I just want to leave this beautiful video of hope and vision for a better future.

Springtime Happy! Apple just featured our app and we’ve just added a few new features. Improved notifications, sounds, and social sharing.

NOTIFICATIONS WITH PLANT IMAGE

Plant notifications will now contain the last image of your plant. When it’s time to water, you’ll now see a picture of your plant. Hey cutie pie.

SOCIAL SHARE OPTIONS

If you like Happy Plant and feel that your friend needs, please tell them! We’ve added a social share feature in our settings page to help spread the word.

Succulent plants are deceiving beautiful babies. To the non-gardening that simply wants plants in the home, you might lean toward getting succulents because they don’t require much watering. And then, if you’re like me, you forget. So little care is needed that you forget to water your plant. Doh.

Or the exact opposite.

You overwater your plant because you think your plant is thirsty and it goes bye-bye.

Plant App Saves Succulents

Your succulent plants might not need Superman, but it turns out that many of our users own succulent plants and use our app to set up a proper water schedule. No too much water, not too little.

With our Happy Plant app, you set reminders to water your succulents at any time interval. Set a reminder to give small doses of water on a more daily basis or spread out your reminders for a bigger water drink.

What matters is that you don’t want to under or overwater your succulents because that can cause them to die. No good.

We’ve been fortunate enough to receive some great feedback about our app from users that have succulent plants:

I have been using this app for the last month & it has been a great way to ensure that I give my succulents proper care. I love the feature that allows you to take photos of your plants @ each watering period so you can observe the health of your plants over time. Great app!

I use it for my succulent and 2 cacti and without it, I’d forget to water them 😅 it’s very helpful!

This little app is so handy and I don’t think I’d have a single plant alive, let alone 6, without this app. I don’t have a prominent green thumb, but I love having plants around in my apartment. I’ve never been able to keep them alive until I got this app about 7 months ago. I generally keep succulents and cacti, I love that they are not high maintenance, but I’ve always either under-watered or over-watered them. Since they don’t need to be watered every day, I would forget when the last time was and just watered them sometimes too soon or too late. So this app keeps me on top of when I need to ACTUALLY water them and, *bonus* I love that I can take pictures each time and see the progress of them over time!! Amazing. I would recommend to people who need help making sure not to over water there succulents. LOVE THE APP

Protect your succulents and smile

Plants need your attention at the right quantity. Apps aren’t for everyone, but please do check out ours to see if it can help you take better care of your succulents. And as you water your plant, you can take a photo to ultimately create a time-lapse video of your succulent growing over time. It’s a beautiful thing to watch and might cause you to smile.

We just submitted our newest update to the App Store. Hopefully, Apple approves it soon and then it will be available for update.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for all your feedback and ideas. It’s one thing to build an app that people enjoy, but it’s super encouraging and fun getting to share conversations with some of you.

Update 3.2.2 Design to water plants

We cleaned up a few bugs and slightly modified the design to encourage you to water a thirsty baby.

New in this update:

(Design improvement) – When you water all your babies today, you may have forgotten some from yesterday. And we added a few graphics to emphasize a missing baby. We wanted to make it more noticeable when a baby needs watering and so we thought some extra graphics would help.

This exercise opened a box of new ideas for us in the sense of “designing to water plants”. Can our design, beyond our functionality itself, affect the user’s behavior to become a better water. Hopefully, you’ll let us know that if you like/dislike these little changes we make along the way.

(Bug squashed) Some people experienced crashing when taking a photo. This should be good now and shouldn’t interrupt you from taking a plant selfie.

We had another exciting week being featured in the App Store once again!

But more importantly, we have some new updates and squashed some pesky bugs that were lingering around our babies! We thought to share the new features and major bug fixes.

Personalize Plant Watering Times

• (New feature) Create any water alarm – it’s now possible to set the plant alarm to your time preference.
• (New feature) Edit existing plants – it’s now possible to change your plant’s watering schedule and name. This will help people adjust to seasonal changes or when you accidentally set a wrong time or baby name.
• (Bug squashed) Time settings were not always being recognized properly. Sad faces around. They are now clear. Happy faces back!
• (Bug squashed) Some of our new users couldn’t see watering for the plant they just added. Since that’s not healthy for their babies we made sure they can now keep a close eye on them.

Hi Happy Planters!

Edits are on the way!

We received a lot of requests to make it possible to edit existing plants. We are almost there! We just need to do some bug cleaning and then we can submit our new version to Apple.

I made a quick little video so you can see what the edits will look like. I had to be quick because we just got our baby to sleep…you don’t mess with that!

Part of the challenge with debugging a time-based app is that you need to be patient and wait for time intervals to see if things are working or not.

We had to change our interface slightly on the streaks screen to display the water alarm time versus streaks. Honestly, we want to revisit what stats are most important to our users.

Ok, that’s a quick update. Morning debug underway!

Happy Plant featured in the App Store

Happy New Year everyone! We hope you enjoyed the holiday treats, refueled yourself with some needed sleep and ready to hit the ground running for the new year.

Your green babies want to see you at your best too!

We were stunned this morning. One of those fist pump moments and had to share.

Apple called out Happy Plant in their “Start the new year organized” section. This looks like a new initiative of Apple where they select apps around certain topic areas. Being the new year, they made a write up about apps that help with organizing.

And holy crap…Happy Plant was listed in the top spot!!!

We are even above Evernote!!!! Hahaha….I’m sorry, but we need to squeeze every bit of this monumental glory of being in the spotlight…haha…ok, I’m done.

But this is truly special because Apple wrote about something that we’ve been striving for with Happy Plant.

Apple wrote:

The time of year where we take stock of our resolutions and try to make them reality. But there’s always something holding us back from realising our dreams. Like common, everyday household chores: keeping tracking of bills, doing shopping or keeping the plants alive.

Happy Plant started off as an app project that would solve a problem while learning how to build apps.

For me, Mike, my wife was always annoyed that I never watered the plants at home and so I thought a water reminder could help.

I dreamed of creating an app and with Vitor, my work-wife, we made it happen!

After releasing Happy Plant into the wild, we saw that this impacted thousands of other iPhone users. People are trying to break bad habits and we want to help remove those little obstacles that stand in the way of self-fulfillment. Watering plants is just one of those tasks that stand in the way, but forgetful habit can be broken!

Personalize your plant watering

For this upcoming update, we’re going to focus on enabling customized plant alarm times.

You set the time for anything you want.

It turns out that many of our users wanted this because our AM/PM approach was too simplistic. Because we had only 2 times to send notifications (7 am and 7 pm), some people would miss the alarm because of the fixed times.

I get it….some people are still sleeping at 7 am and some people eat at 7 pm.

One thing that we always question with our design decisions is whether a new addition will make the app more complicated than it needs to be. But in this case, it seems that the functionality to support people’s routine better is a clear win.

So this is in the development as I’m writing. We look forward to releasing our Happy Plant update soon.
